GREAT HADDON DEVELOPMENT
We are receiving a number of emails regarding the Great Haddon Development and the planning process relating to this application. An outlined Planning Application for the Great Haddon Development was submitted to Peterborough City Council in December 2009. As soon as the Parish Council were made aware of these plans they joined forces with other villages that would be affected by this development and formed the Norman Cross Action Group, the Group was also made up of District and County Councillors for this are. This Group then fought tirelessly against these proposals, including leaflet dropping every household in the village back in 2011, arranging for the plans to be displayed in the Austin hall and speaking against the application at the Peterborough City Council Planning Meeting. Despite all this, the outlined planning permission was approved for the Development by Peterborough City Council in July 2018, this would have included plans for the loop road. However, a proposal to close the exit from London Road for village traffic on the A15 going towards Peterborough was withdrawn by the Developers after opposition from the Norman Cross Action Group. Yaxley Parish Council met with O & H Hampton in August 2019 and at this meeting the final design for the loop road was mentioned and Members outlined their concerns over the road and the proposed junction at Waterslade to which O & H Hampton reiterated that the outlining plans for the road had been approved by Peterborough City Council and infrastructure such as roundabouts could not be added. The applications that have been considered and approved by Peterborough City Council recently are all to do with the discharge of the plans and the road’s construction and landscaping, objecting to these plans would not stop the loop road or the development going ahead as they had already been approved.
Peterborough City Council are the Planning Authority for this development and they have the plans for the site on their Planning Portal online. Both Huntingdonshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council were involved in this planning process. Cambridgeshire County Council are the Highways Authority and would have been consulted on the road in particular.
Yaxley will remain in Huntingdonshire and there are no plans to change the village boundary and move across to Peterborough.
The Parish Council will continue to monitor this development and will work with all the authorities involved regarding residents’ concerns, particularly over traffic flow and congestion. We have written to the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Nik Johnson; Peter McDonald who is Chairman of Cambridgeshire County Councils Transport & Highways Committee and to Yaxley’s local MP Shailesh Vara raising concerns over congestion, pollution and noise and we encourage residents to do the same.
