Yaxley Parish Council have been dealing with an ongoing problem of the misuse of a number of bins in the village. As a result we have placed warning signs on those bins affected stating that if the misuse continues they may be removed. As many residents do not see the issues we are experiencing we have decided to provide further details of the problems we are referring to.
There are a small number of residents who are filling these bins with large amounts of heavy waste, this waste should be going in their household bins. The waste we are referring to is full bags of used cat litter, unopened tinned food and carrier bags completely filled with compacted animal waste.
The weight of this waste makes it difficult for the Parish Council staff to empty these bins. The filling of the bins means other residents may not be able to use the bins as there is no available space. Occasionally people will balance their rubbish on top of the filled bin which then falls down. This not good for the environment and it also encourages pests.
The misuse of the bins does not refer to normal residents use, or high use of a particular bin. We cannot increase the size of the bins we are having problems with as they will then be filled with further heavy and unsuitable waste items which become even more difficult to deal with.
We draw attention to the issue with the signs in the hope that this misuse stops. The removal of a bin is the last resort as we know the majority of the residents use bin in a responsible and appropriate manor and we do not want to punish the majority for the actions of the minority.
We have over 70 bins in the village which are all for general waste, they are emptied twice a week in order to try and keep the village clean and tidy and are pleased to be able to do this for the village, as long as all residents use the bins appropriately we will be able to continue to do so.
